Balancing science with empathy.

When there are deep imbalances in your dog or cat’s body, western veterinary medicine (for example, antibiotics, surgery, suppressing or manipulating immune responses, etc.) is likely the appropriate course of action. But there are various imbalances in the body that don’t need the global approach of western medicine. They just need small tweaks. We believe there is an incredible opportunity here for modern veterinary practitioners to blend the two approaches in order to help your pet heal in the most efficient and effective way.

    Wellness Examinations

Bringing your dog or cat in for routine wellness examinations is one of the most powerful things you can do for your pet’s health and happiness. This allows us to establish a baseline for your pet’s health and behavior, and to quickly spot when something becomes irregular. During your dog or cat’s examination, we will thoroughly check each of their major bodily systems.

    Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used in animals for thousands of years. It is primarily used to treat functional problems in your dog or cat, such as noninfectious inflammation, pain, or mobility issues. It can be used to treat a wide range of health issues – from arthritis, to diarrhea, to feline asthma, anxiety, hip dysplasia, and even some reproductive problems.

    Dental Care

The majority of dogs and cats over the age of three show signs of periodontal disease. Over the years, it has become increasingly clear how central your pet’s oral health is to the health of the rest of their body. Bacteria from periodontal disease can spread through the bloodstream and damage your pet’s vital internal organs – such as their heart, liver, and kidneys. We can prevent this through routine dental cleanings, and helping you keep their teeth brushed between visits at home.

    Herbal Therapy

An herb is a plant with active therapeutic processes. If properly used, herbal medicine can treat a wide range of health issues in pets, including chronic kidney failure, epilepsy, behavioral disorders, hormonal disorders, skin allergies, and more. Herbal therapy has fewer side effects than modern pharmaceutical treatments.

    Vaccinations

Every dog or cat should be vaccinated for rabies, and other vaccinations may be appropriate given your pet’s medical history or environment. We can consult with you on which vaccinations should be considered, answer any questions you have, and can set up a schedule of vaccinations for your pet.

    Chiropractic

The stresses of daily existence can be hard on the body – jumping, running, playing, twisting, bouncing. When an animal, human or pet, suffers muscle or nerve pain, chiropractic adjustments can prove useful to realign mechanical interactions between the soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, tendons) and the bony skeleton. This results in pain reduction, decreased inflammation and more effective biomechanics. Regular adjustments help maintain normal range of motion of joints.

The role of the veterinarian

We think of the role of the veterinarian as that of a good detective. Both veterinarian and owner work together to gather information about the pet’s behaviors. We ask probing questions and consider all details so as to form a diagnosis of underlying issues and from that, an effective path of treatment.

What your neighbors say…

Dr. McCaughan, I brought my cat, Pippa, in today for our first visit to your office. I want to thank you for all the time you took to explain all the things you explained to me, from the possible lineage of my cat to the theory behind your vaccination regiment. You have a very comfortable office and a friendly, pleasant, competent staff. You’ll be seeing me again when my dog is due for her check-up examination. I’ll be sure to tell anyone looking for a vet about your facility.

Thank you all again for the care you showed Pippa and the time you took to answer my questions.

I am so happy to share this news: Marina Village Veterinary is a wonderful new vet clinic on Alameda, around than 10 minutes door to door from the Ellington in the Marina Village Shopping Center. Dr. Ashley McCaughan combines clinical judgment with intuition in her practice. She spent time with us to be sure she understood Ginger’s complete medical situation. I appreciate the range of treatment options that she discussed with me.

The entire team treats Ginger like their own pet and Ginger has been calm during her visits! The office is beautiful and I have been able to schedule same-day appointments so far. If you need a vet or are looking to change your vet, this is a terrific newer practice. They can be reached at 510-939-8340.
